Gold medal and second place in the International Linguistics Olympiad!

EK student Daria Krivosheeva won a gold medal and the second absolute result in the world at the 18th International Linguistics Olympiad! The Ukrainian team also won a gold medal in the team round for the first time in all the years of its participation in this Olympiad.

The 18th International Linguistics Olympiad was held from July 19 to 24, 2021. The competition was held by Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (Latvia), but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the participants were located and competed in their own countries.

The Olympiad included two rounds: individual and team, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 20 and 21, respectively. In addition to the rounds — as well as the grand opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympiad via video broadcast — participants were provided with several lectures and interactive sessions via the Internet.

As with the regular international Olympiads, each country was represented at the event by one or two teams of four students. This year, eight students from Ukraine competed.

The Olympiad was attended by 216 participants from 54 teams representing 34 countries and territories. This year, Ukrainians won a gold medal and three distinctions in the individual round. In addition, Darya Kryvosheeva and Artem Grechka won prizes for the best solutions to problems No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.
